Making Good Grub Gourmet

How it began…

Rhonda Montgomery from County Tyrone is a hugely successful food consultant and is the founder of the Montgomery Food Group. With over 25 years developing her three businesses – Montgomery Food Consulting, Butchery Excellence Ireland and Hospitality Ireland, Rhonda began designing her own product ranges to create Gourmet Grub.

Gourmet Grub was inspired by Rhonda’s desire to take part in the World Butchers’ Challenge 2020 following her success at the World Butchers Challenge in 2018 when Ireland picked up the winning trophy. This desire led her to create new recipes to bring something new to the competition. In her drive to win Best Chicken Product in the world she has created her own batters, coaters and crumbs which are all allergen free. She worked with Loughry College for two years developing her recipes and is now bringing her products to market.

Gourmet Grub is a food production business based in County Tyrone which makes and delivers a high quality, fully cooked allergen free from food-to-go range across the north and south of Ireland. Gourmet Grub’s healthy range of products are suitable to the frozen and fresh chilled market.

She has now injected new life into an old creamery in Augher, Co Tyrone to create jobs in a rural area, inject new life into the community while creating these succulent, full of flavour allergen free products.


When Covid-19 hit, Rhonda had been selling her ingredients wholesale for nine months. But, like all businesses, when Rhonda’s wholesale ceased, she pivoted her business to create great tasting, allergen ‘free from’ ready to eat products to be distributed across Northern Ireland and Ireland for retail and hospitality. Gourmet Grub offers customers a new healthy alternative for snacks, lunches and dinners. With convenience in mind, she created her chicken range so its cooked and ready to eat or can be heated up in just 15 minutes.

Our products offer consumers convenience. Many other chicken suppliers sell frozen chicken which requires 40-45 minutes in the oven. Gourmet Grub does it better bringing you convenience, a consistently high quality product which are full of flavours which has never been seen before in the allergen free market. Any consumer concerned about allergens need not worry when they buy Gourmet Grub products. Our range gives people choice as well as peace of mind in their search for delicious tasting food which are allergen free.

The move into retail

Our food production facility in Augher, County Tyrone has its own shop and we are able to do deliveries to local people. In our drive to get great tasting food, produced locally, to local consumers, we are now distributing our allergen free product range to retailers, wholesalers, butchers, delicatessens, takeaways and restaurants. We believe everyone should be able to access allergen free food.
